Two Types of Appraisals

Clients of ValueThisNow.com can elect to purchase either a light "short" version of the appraisal, or an full "long" version. The difference is the amount and detail of information provided by the appraiser.

  • Appraisals include:
    • Assignment file number
    • Title
    • Effective date of the report
    • For a light (short) appraisal: Brief description
    • For a full (long) appraisal: Detailed description
    • Approx. date of manufacture
    • Country of origin if determinable
    • Signatures, maker's marks, dates
    • Inscriptions, monograms
    • Dimensions
    • Condition
    • Item history/provenance
    • Disclosure of extraordinary assumptions made, if any
    • For a light (short) appraisal: Brief appraiser comments
    • For a full (long) appraisal: Detailed appraiser comments (e.g., history of the item or its maker, how the item was used, historical significance, association with important personages, extraordinary assumptions being made by the appraisers, market data on which opinion of value was based (i.e., past comparable sales or current asking prices for similar items), how to best care for or preserve the item, relevant club to join or periodical to subscribe to if interested in learning more about the item, web sites of interest, who can repair/restore/conserve the item, etc.)
    • Range of replacement values (comparable)
    • Range of fair market value
    • Links to definitions of replacement value (comparable) and fair market value
    • Link to supplementary information related to and part of the assignment report
